Happy Birthday to my natural hair! One year of amazing growth!

It’s a celebration!!! 2 months ago, on Christmas Day, 2013, my natural hair turned one!! I am so stoked. Returning my hair to its natural state has been a world wind of an experience. I have gone through feeling like I made a mistake, feeling ugly, unattractive, and all things in between, to FINALLY loving and accepting my hair. The kinks, the curls, the tangles, the knots, the shrinkage, the fluffiness, the volume and the stares from onlookers.

Below you will see pictures of my hair throughout the past 12 months. I love being natural! This journey has been one of self acceptance, self-awareness  and self growth.

The beginning! My perm days

Transitioning. 11 months, no perm. Notice the thick, wavy roots, and long stringy permed ends.
15 months of transitioning. Slowly cutting off the perm.

Finally cut off all of the perm!

Day 1 of being a natural!

2 months natural
3 months natural

5 months natural

7 months natural

9 months natural

12 months natural

14 months natural
Completely in shock at this growth!

How did you transition to natural hair?

With Love,

  1. you look so stunning with your natural hair! Its amazing to see how much more volume and life your hair has now! I used to relax my hair growing up but I stopped at around 19 and haven’t looked back since. My hair has definitely gotten so much better. I still blow dry my hair every now and then especially during the colder months just to make my life easier but my curls have never been better!

    1. Hi there!

Thank you. Yes, the volume is amazing. I could never achieve that volume with a perm. I don’t plan on looking back either. Maybe you could do a post about your curly hair!?Thanks for stopping by 🙂 .

  2. Great progress and evolution. I’m inspired. I haven’t permed my hair in over 9 months, its time to chop. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Hello,
You look fabulous! My last relaxer was January 19th, and it has been challenging for the month of May. I am not sure if I could make it to a year.(

Please, share your thoughts!
