They say the best things in life are free, and the second best are expensive.

Advanced Cleansing Brush

As a makeup artist, I am always interested in new products that promise to thoroughly cleanse the skin. Yes, it’s important to flawlessly blend and combine colors when working with makeup, however, it’s equally important to remove your makeup properly to prevent break-outs and acne. A good skin cleansing routine is key.

I’ve seen countless YouTube reviews, tweets and endless facebook posts about the Clarisonic cleansing system. Curious to see what the buzz was all about, I took a trip to Ulta Beauty with the intent to purchase it. It looked luxurious in the box, and I quickly grabbed one and stood in line. Luckily for me, the line was pretty long, and I was able to come to my senses after staring at the ridiculously  pricey tag of $199.00.  That trusty voice in my head said “run“! And that is what I did. I put the pretty box back on the shelf, and hightailed it out of there. I made a mental note to look for a dupe of this product.

I searched the web looking for a comparable cleansing system, but even those were still pricy. Coming in at $60-$80, the knockoffs were still not appealing to me.  Well, that all changed when I walked into my local Target .  As I walked down the aisles, putting items in my cart, I stumbled upon the Acne Free Advanced Cleansing brush.  I could not believe that I found  a cleansing brush at a price that made me smile, $14.99! Score!

After using this product for a few weeks, I can report that it is working for me. I have pretty sensitive skin and most things irritate my face. I need a product that will aid in removing my makeup and combat my oily skin. The bristles of the brush are very soft and glides across my skin. My face feels squeaky clean, soft and smooth after each use. It removes oil, and my makeup, leaving my face feeling refreshed.

Even though I love my new cleansing brush, honestly, the Clarisonic is more of a visual appeal. I can admit that! I mean, It comes in many colors, different sizes, its own case for traveling, a charger, a base and different cleansing and moisturizing products. Phew! The Advanced Cleansing brush comes with um…well…2AA batteries and 2 brush heads, that’s it! Oh, and it’s white. No dazzle or shimmery colors, just white. I forced myself not to focus on the aesthetic appeal of the Clarisonic but more on what it is intended to do, which is clean my face! And that is what my Target knockoff is doing. Hey, mind over matter, right?

Here are some product specifics if you are interested in purchasing either of these cleansing systems.

  1. I have the clarisonic brush. the brush is soft and feels good on my face. but my charge stopped working! Sometimes payin more for something is not always the good choice. Good post. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Hey Veronica,

I’ve heard from other people that their chargers stop working also. The clarisonic comes with a warranty, so I’m sure you can contact them and ask to have your charger replaced.

  2. Thank you for this wonderful review!!! I too was like you, standing on line contemplating if I should buy a Clarisonic. I ended up buying the Olay Pro-X, and I love it. My pores are visibly cleaner and when I use my toner the cotton ball doesn’t have any leftover makeup residue on it. My Olay is on the verge of dying. It’s has been one year since I purchased it. When it dies I will try the Acne Free Advance.

  3. I use Proactive’s cleansing facial brush. It really gets deep into the pores and it’s soft on my face. I actually use all of their products on my face. So far, so good! Good review post Kimberly.

    1. Yes, my friend uses the proactive brush and really likes it as well. I used to use their cleansing products when I was suffering from frequent breakouts. I remember it smelling really good!

  4. I’ve wanted to buy a Clarisonic for the longest time but the price scared me away as well! Great to know that there are dupes that work just as well! Will definitely keep a look out for a cheaper option! 🙂

  5. hello! it actually happened to me as well. i choose acne free coz its way cheaper yet it sure does a good work. but im just wondering how often should we change the brush heads and if you have any idea where to get them. thank you!

    1. Hello Kris,

My brush came with 2 heads. I actually haven’t changed the one I’ve been using as yet. I thoroughly cleanse the brush with anti-bacterial soap and warm water. Also, I dip it in diluted bleach once per week to get the germs out. You can visit the website for the brand that your purchased. The information should be on their page. Thanks for stopping by.
